Gurindervir Singh sprinted his way to a record breaking gold in the boys 100m final of the Sri Krishna Institutions 16th Federation Cup National junior athletics championship at the Nehru Stadium here on Saturday.
The 100m scheduled for day one had to be rescheduled due to fading light. And, that came as a blessing in disguise for the 18-year-old from Punjab. He took off smoothly and gathered pace midway through to stop the clock at 10.47s for a new junior National mark.
With the Asian youth title (Bangkok, 2017) under his belt, Gurindervir improved upon the existing record held by Tamil Nadu’s Augustine Yesudas by 0.10s. Obviously, he will now be India’s best medal bet in the Asian under-20 championship scheduled at Gifu, Japan, in June.
